Court remands police officer who aided escape of child killer in Rivers

A Chief Magistrate court in Port Harcourt has ordered that Investigative Police Officer, IPO, Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroinze who allegedly aided the escape of Ifeanyi Dike, the twenty three year old child-killer be remanded in the Port Harcourt Prison.
Sergeant Johnbosco was slammed with two count charge of aiding and abetting and perverting the will of Justice.
Chief Magistrate, Andrew Jaja said the crime committed by the Sergeant was punishable by life sentence.



The court referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice just as he adjourned the matter to September 14 for mention.
Womor Sunday who is the Counsel to the remanded sergeant told newsmen that the magistrate court lacks the jurisdiction to hear the matter because of the magnitude of the crime.
Meanwhile, human rights Lawyer, Eugene Odey has called on members of the public to stop criticizing the police but cooperate with the Force to find the child-killer, Ifeanyi Dike.
Odey said the Commissioner of Police has shown sincerity in finding the fleeing suspect.
He further revealed that Sergeant Johnbosco has been dismissed from the Police Force for his laxity.

Senate says Nigeria accounts for 40% of gas flared annually in Africa The Senate said on Wednesday that Nigeria accounts for over 40 per cent of the gas flared annually across Africa,  which amounts to about $7 billion in waste, Vanguard reports. It also declared Nigeria was losing over $2.5 billion to gas-flaring  annually and that the country also accounts for an estimated two billion standard cubic feet of flared gas, which amounts to about 19 per cent of gas flared globally.
