The National Marshal of the front, Engr Emmanuel Nwosu, in a press briefing in Awka on Wednesday said failure to do so and conduct a more credible primary election or placate aggrieved aspirants of the party will mean losing the election from the onset. Nwosu said the primary election was marred by irregularities that first emanated from a flawed ward congress, which he said failed to elect the constitutional three delegates per ward in over 90 percent of the 326 wards of the state. “We are saddened by the process that led to that primary election. We are also worried that the aspirants on the party’s platform withdrew in droves in protest, and the ones that participated in the election also saw the fla...

Image

Image
The Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) group has attacked the Arewa youths consultative forum (AYCF) over a statement on the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group. The AYCF condemned the Ohanaeze for warning the Federal government of Nigeria against arresting the Leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Responding to the attack on Ohanaeze, IPOB maintained that Kanu has not committed any crime that could warrant being rearrested. Below is a statement by the spokesperson of the group, Mr. Emma Powerful; If Nigeria ever had a case against our leader, why have the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) not commenced the trial since October 2015 when our leader was first arrested? Instead the Arewa North thought they could intimidate this present Ohaneze Ndigbo as they did to previous executives, into allowing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to be arrested. P...

Nigeria's Unity Is Unfinished Business By Bayo Oluwasanmi

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari's speech to Nigerians on his return from his prolonged overseas medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment was a no-brainer. There was no pivot. There was no olive branch. There was no binding of wounds. No lofty summons to the better angels of our nature. More colloquially, Mr. Buhari fell back on his military dictatorial tendencies. In short, it was a speech that extended acrid anger of hostile, separate, unequal and divided ethnic groups of a deeply polarized nation. Mr. Buhari thundered against separatist agitators. He said the 2003 Daura Accord between him and late Chief Emeka Ojukwu has forever sealed the unity of Nigeria. “Nigeria's unity is settled and not negotiable,” says Buhari. He warned: “We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble...” Without any polls, referendum, or plebiscite, Mr. Buhari concludes: “The national consensus is that, it is better to live together than to live apart.” National unity mean...

Diezani: Charly boy, Adeyanju, others exhibiting ‘mumu-ness’ – Presidency

Image
The Presidency on Tuesday described those calling for the repatriation of former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke as ignorant. President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, made the remark while faulting the call by Charles Oputa aka Charlyboy, Deji Adeyanju , among others, that the former Minister be extradited from the United Kingdom, UK, back home to face charges for her alleged crimes. Recall that a Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, led by Charlyboy had besieged the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, demanding that the former Minister be repatriated. The Commission, however, promised to explore the possibility of extraditing the former Minister from the UK to face trial for her crimes in Nigeria. But Onochie via her twitter handle wrote: “It appears that some of us especially those who are not good or are selective at remembering d past, are a...

Nigeria: 2014 National Conference and the Benefits of Restructuring

In 2014, the Goodluck Jonathan administration organised a national dialogue to deliberate on, and recommend ways to resolve some of the challenges facing his government, many of which problems were rooted in history, and arguably, have been multiplied and magnified by the failure of the current administration. Since Buhari took office in May 2015, virtually every sector of the society has been impacted adversely. Direct foreign investment is down. The stock market has shrunk. Our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which surpassed that of South Africa for the first time during the Jonathan years is now the lowest it has been in 25 years. Unemployment level is growing by the day. The cost of essential commodities such as food stuff has tripled, causing hunger and unheard of levels of poverty in the land. The naira is at the lowest level it has been in history. There is also the growing state of insecurity. Despite the administration's attempts to downplay the menace of Bo...

Image
