PDP Chairmanship: Defiant Dokpesi schemed out, but picks form

PDP Chairmanship: Defiant Dokpesi schemed out, but picks formThe hope of Chief Raymond Dokpesi of becoming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), national chairman has been quashed as the party finally zoned its chairmanship to the South West.
Dokpesi appears to have campaigned more than any other interested in the race for the party chairmanship, having toured over 16 states campaigning.
He said while recently addressing some delegates in Ekiti state, “I have been touring 17 states of the federation for just about a week now and I’m still strong.”
All that touring is now wasted efforts as southern leaders of PDP, finally resolved to zone the national chairmanship position of the party to the South-West geopolitical zone.
The leaders agreed on this at a meeting on Thursday, attended by governors, National Assembly members and former ministers, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. The party also resolved to zone national treasurer and deputy national publicity secretary positions to the South West.
The position of the first deputy national chairman, national legal adviser, deputy national woman leader and deputy national auditor, were zoned to the South-South while South East zone will produce national organising secretary, national youth leader and deputy national financial secretary.
However, deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who addressed journalists at the end of the meeting, noted that despite the zoning of the positions, any party member willing to contest any position was free to do so.
But Dokpesi has picked the form for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite Thursday resolution by southern leaders of the party that the position should go to South West.
Except for Dokpesi, the battle for PDP chairmanship is now drawn among former chairman of the Nigerian Port Authority, Bode George, former Ogun state governor, Gbenga Daniel, and the party’s governorship flag bearer for Lagos state in 2015, Jimi Agbaje.
The PDP’s national convention holds in less than two weeks in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
