The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday announced dates for general elections in the country for the next 36 years, starting from 2019 to 2055. Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mamood Yakubu, made the announcement at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja. “In 2019, the dates are Feb. 16 and March 2; in 2023, the dates are Feb. 18 and March 4. “In 2027, the dates are Feb. 20 and March 6; in 2031, it is Feb.15 and March 1. “In 2035, it is Feb. 17 and March 3; in 2039, it is Feb.19 and March 5 and in 2043, it will hold on Feb. 21 and March 7. “In 2047, it is Feb.15 and March 2; in 2051, it is Feb.18 and March 1; in 2055, it is Feb. 20 and March 6,” Yakubu said. How Hackers steal ₽339.5 million from Russian banks

 L atest report as unidentified hackers stole 339.5 million rubles ($6 million) in an attack on the SWIFT international payments messaging system in Russia last year, the Russian central bank said on Friday. The disclosure, buried at the bottom of a central bank report on digital thefts at Russian banks, is the latest in a string of attempted and successful cyber heists using fraudulent wire-transfer requests. The central bank said it had been sent information about ”one successful attack on the work place of a SWIFT system operator. “The volume of unsanctioned operations as a result of this attack amounted to 339.5 million rubles,” the bank said. The central bank declined to provide further details. 2019 election: Dansadau tells Nigerians what to do to corrupt politicians

Alhaji Sa’idu Dansadau, the National Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) has called Nigerians not to vote for corrupt politicians in 2019. Dansadau, a former Senator, made the call while addressing supporters of the party in Kano on Saturday. “No corrupt politicians should be voted in the upcoming general elections in 2019; anybody found to have stolen public funds should not be allowed to hold any political office,” he said. According to him, there was need for Nigerians to avoid politicians who don’t have the interest of the country at heart but are only interested in amassing public funds through corrupt practices. The Federal Government is not unmindful of unemployment and poverty situation in the country, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said  on Tuesday . Such problems among others structural conditions which are responsible for violent extremism in the country are being addressed on daily basis by the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari, the Minister added. The Minister made the remarks at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, while delivering a keynote address at the public presentation of Policy Framework and National Action Plan For Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, organised by the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA. 15 per cent of Nigerian youth lose virginity before age 15 – NACA

According to the Director-General of NACA, Sani Aliyu, at least 15 per cent of Nigerian youth now lose their virginity before the age of 15. The agency also raised an alarm that the Nigerian youth are increasingly engaging in unprotected sex and having multiple sexual partners. The alarm was ahead of the Valentine’s Day on February 14, warning the youth to “Share love and not HIV,” according to a statement Tuesday by the spokesperson of the agency, Toyin Aderibigbe. Leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu The Economic Community of West Africa ECOWAS Court, has again adjourned hearing into the fundamental rights suit filed by leader of the indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. Mr. Kanu’s suit filed in March 2016 is yet to reach its hearing stage at the court since it was first brought before it. The case had been adjourned in November 2017, after a previous postponement a month before that time, following applications by parties in the matter. On Tuesday the court presided by Justice Hemeye Mahdmadane announced its decision to make the further adjournment after entertaining a fresh application by the prosecution. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has closed registration for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This was confirmed in a statement signed by the board’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, on Tuesday. Jega to Nigerians: Tell politicians they can no longer buy their way into office

POLITICS – I t is report that the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has asked Nigerians to let politicians know that can no longer ‘buy’ their way into elective positions by ensuring that the electoral processes are not tampered with. Nigerian govt to recruit 200,000 health workers nationwide

The Federal Ministry of Health is set to engage 200,000 agents under its Community Health Influencers, Promoters and Services (CHIPS) Programme nationwide. President Muhammadu Buhari had in his visit to Nasarawa on Tuesday directed the ministry to “synergise with other states to roll out the programme to enable the less-privileged and the rural dwellers to have access to health services.” CHIPS, developed by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, aims to link health work force to rural and underserved communities in hopes of bridging gaps in access to health care. Speaking on the development, NPHCDA executive director, Faisal Shuaib, said the CHIPS agents will go from house to house to provide first aid care and health education. Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for not visiting the state, following the alleged attacks by Fulani herdsmen. Nigeria: UNODC Launches Policy Publications to Tackle Drug Abuse

In a move to combat hydra-headed problem of drug dependence among millions of Nigerian youths and widespread incidence of drug induced criminality and violence in the country, the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has launched four different publications on important policies and guidelines for controlled medicines and drug dependence treatment. The publications, which were developed jointly by UNODC, Federal Ministry of Health and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) was launched by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and the NAFDAC Boss, Prof. Moji Christianah Adeyeye under the auspices of UNODC. Troops arrest two Fulani herdsmen in Benue

  Troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, Nigerian Army, on  a routine patrol along Gbajimba – Iyiodeh road in Guma LGA of Benue State have  arrested two Fulani militias. According to a statement signed by the Assitant Diector Army Public Relations,707 Special Forces Brigade Nigeria Arny makurd,Major Olabisi Ayeni, stated that suspects  were  planning a dangerous mission. The troops sighted the militias while on their daily patrol. The United States of America has said that Russia is not its friend and will not be until its government has, “the values that it has.” The Russian Embassy earlier lampooned the US for, “unmotivated” and “hostile” actions against its people.
