2016 BUDGET

–PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari may have tacitly scrapped kerosene subsidy in the country as he made no allocation for it in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, and Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP, which he presented to the National Assembly,Tuesday. The document indicated that the present federal administration is to borrow the sum of N1.835.88 trillion to fund the 2016 budget which stands at N6.04 trillion just as it disclosed that so far, a total sum of N350.33 billion has been recovered from misappropriated funds. A breakdown showed that while the sum of N1, 200.00 trillion would be borrowed domestically, foreign borrowing would N635.88 trillion. More details soon.

Suicide bombers on Friday afternoon, reportedly hit Kimba area of the Biu Local Government Area (LGA) and Sabon-Ngeri, both located in Borno State. The numbers of injured or dead is unknown at the time of publication. Details soon.

FG advised to reverse National Automotive Policy

The Spokesman of Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), Mr Bolaji Akinola on Thursday advised the Federal Government to reverse the National Automotive Policy. Akinola gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. According to him, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry Trade and Investment, should revisit the nation’s automotive policy and ensure a quick reversal. He explained that the automotive policy had increased import duty on vehicles from 20 to 70 per cent and was driving cargoes (vehicles) away from Nigerian ports. Also, president of the Shippers Association Lagos State, Mr Jonathan Nicol, had said the automotive policy specifying 35 per cent duty, 35 per cent levy and 5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) should be reversed.
